Grenada
I was excited to get to Carriacou and Grenada as I lived there for many years when I was a teenager. I was especially excited to get to show Chloe and the kids where I had lived and stayed as a teenager.
Tyrell Bay in Cariacou was a first stop. I stayed here on a boat, by myself (!), for a little while. Little has changed since then but we saw a marina being built as well as a big supermarket going up. The local ferry to Grenada will also be landing here instead of Hilsborough, so big changes are afoot and I'm sure the place wont be as quaint soon.
Sandy Island had one of the very best reefs we’ve seen in the whole Caribbean. Sadly, we can’t find the footage. It’s a marine park and fishing is prohibited… except a lot of fishing goes on with very destructive nets. I saw many fish that were in shock and swimming badly after the fisher men had "released" them from the nets they used. The fisherman aren’t allowed to keep any of the reef fish (only pelagics), but the nets still catch them and harm the coral.
